Early Days of Restoration

Fortunately for me I had a facility to repair my jeep at home otherwise it will take a lot more money and effort for the restoration. I fixed two seats for the driver and co-passenger. Back top of the body is completely built with stainless steel pipes. Early days I used 6” alloy wheels to the jeep but I only had 4 of them. I still have this set but I replaced them with 8” south African alloy set. I have changed the original steering gear to floorboard gear system. It is a simple step anyway I will publish a separate post on that.

All of the Aisin hubs that I have seen so far have the name on it. So it is not difficult to identify them. I think Aisin hub is the best for Mitsubishi jeeps. But I have seen one person use Warn hubs as well. He told me that those are working pretty well too. All j series Mitsubishi jeep hubs fits perfectly with j44. If the hub you have comes for a Mitsubishi jeep you don’t have to worry about model and year. It will work fine with the j44.

Shanaka,

good blog. I agree it is hard to find info on Mitsubishi jeeps. I am looking forward to reading about the gear stick conversion from column to floor. My knee gets hit bt the gear lever when trying to engage reverse especially.

PS How easy is it to find a pto winch ?

do you have the time to check back and reply to questions on this blog site ?

finding a pto and winch is not an easy task. But Electric winch are cheaper and easy to find

Good stuff, planning to do a free/lock hub installation. At least these aren't available to buy brand new?

Hi Shanaka,

I myself am rebuilding and maintaining a J44. I go to George or Ali at Panchikawatha and Wasantha Motors, Willies Trading etc for used and new spares. Would like to see more pics and am now looking for a winch which is a difficult task.
